Yard Charge is a chance for us to rake leaves for the elderly people of Broadview Heights. Troop 810, Pack 810, and The Knights of Columbus work together to rake the homes of about 10 - 15 residents.  An overnight campout follows the day of raking for those Boy Scouts and Webelos that would like to attend.

This weekend will feature two events. The Yard Charge Community Good Turn and secondly, an overnight campout at the Hemlock Creek campsite in Bedford Reservation. Here are the details...

Yard Charge

Date and Time of Departure: Saturday, November 10th, 8:00am - Old Church

Purpose: To give back to our community by helping rake leaves for our elderly members while earning service hours necessary for scout rank advancement.

Location: Broadview Heights

Event Coordinator: Mr. Cotugno

Yard Charge Day Only Cost: Bring lunch money or brown bag lunch for Saturday. We will assemble for lunch in the North Royalton Giant Eagle parking lot on the South side next to Burger King AFTER we finish raking leaves. We will split up for 1 hour and eat in groups going to Taco Bell, Arbys, Subway, Burger King, Angies Pizza, New Gum Do, McDonalds, KFC, Augies Pizza & Ribs, etc.

Yard Charge Campout Cost: $10 for any Scout/Webelos who DOES NOT rake in the morning, FREE for any Scout/Webelos who does rake in the morning. Permission slips are due at the November 6th troop meeting, you may use one slip for both events.

Estimated Time of Return: Saturday, November 10th, 1:30pm - Old Church

Items to Bring:

  • Wear your troop hat and work clothes.
  • Rake
  • Gloves
  • Water
  • Adults  - Drivers needed, leaf blowers, rakes, tarps to drag leaves, etc.

Hemlock Creek

Permission Slip: Permission slips are due at the November 6th troop meeting, you may use one slip for both events.

Campout Coordinator: Mr. Dzurnak

Time of Departure: Leave for Hemlock Creek around 2:00pm Saturday, November 10th from Assumption Old Church Hall after we pack up.

Bring:

  • Scout Outdoor Essentials (see handbook)
  • Camping Gear and Extra Clothing (see handbook)
  • Be Prepared for Cooler or Wet Weather!
  • Chair for Campfire
  • Water
  • Tent and Parent for Webelos

Directions to Hemlock Creek Camping area in Bedford Reservation

  1. Take Pleasant Valley Road east, it will turn into Alexander Road, pass Canal and turn left on Dunham Road
  2. Turn right on Button Road, this is past Egbert and Gorge Parkway
  3. Campground is on the left side of Button Road just over the bridge
WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Saturday
8:00am Assemble in front of Assumption Old Church with rakes, adults, drivers, maps and form raking teams
8:15am Take annual "Yard Charge" picture with everyone involved and leave in teams to rake yards
12:30pm Stop for lunch (bring money for McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, KFC)
1:30pm Head back to Assumption Church and pack up for overnight at Hemlock Creek
2:00pm Scouts leave for Button Road, Bedford.  Equipment leaves for Button Road, Walton Hills.
2:30pm Scouts Arrive at Button Road in Bedford at the end of West Grace to begin a 1 mile hike into camp. Equipment is driven to camp and will meet us there.
2:45pm Scouts and Equipment arrive at Hemlock Creek Camp and begin camp set-up.
3:00pm Experienced Scouts:
  1. Lash a flag pole together for 3:30 raising
  2. Help other scouts finish setting up tents
  3. Get Webelos stations set-up
3:30pm Flag Raising Ceremony and Announcements
3:35pm Begin training station 1- 1st aid carries - Teach and practice the carries
4:05pm Begin training station 2- Fire building & skits - Experienced scouts help include Webelos in skits for campfire
4:35pm Begin training station 3-Lashing knots for chariot races-Experienced scouts help build chariots. Chariot races to follow.
5:00pm Cooks report begin preparing dinner
5:20pm Finish with Stations - Put away any gear
5:30pm Flag Ceremony
5:35pm Eat dinner
6:15pm Clean up dinner
6:30pm Free time - Play Capture the Flag, prepare skits for campfire, work on scout requirements, etc.
9:30pm Eat some snacks, monkey bread, cobbler, etc. and begin campfire program!
10:30pm Get ready for bed
11:00pm Lights Out, Quiet Time
Sunday
7:00am Reveille, Wake Up & break down Camp
8:00am Breakfast (only after camp is broken down & packed up!!!)
8:30am Leave for Assumption
9:00am Arrive at Assumption - Behind Old Church in the school parking lot (away from church traffic)
9:15am After putting gear away, go home or go to Mass - remember to air out tents and clean tarps when you get home, do not let them sit packed up

Home - Schedule
