Camp Stambaugh

March 20-22, 2009
Canfield, OH

Boy scouts love electronics. It’s as close to undeniable truth as you can get. And this principle was applied during our time at Camp Stambaugh.

The first day was largely uneventful. All of the scouts arrived at the meeting point. When I say “all of the scouts”, I mean it quite literally. The Camp Stambaugh attendance was much higher than many of the other campouts the troop has done, probably due to the fact that we were allowed to bring electronics. After gathering, we started the 1 hour car ride to the camp. After we arrived, we eventually found the cabin, looked around, unpacked, and went to bed.

The next morning, we woke up, ate breakfast (pancakes and sausage), and woke up everyone not yet out of bed. The morning activity was building a flagpole out of sticks and rope. How fun. After that got figured out, we had a flag-raising ceremony. Peter and Kevin, two new scouts, got to be the color guard. Then we went inside to finish requirements and, inevitably, use electronics. We ate a nice, healthy lunch of hot dogs, and we got to eat some of Mr. Mayher’s amazing cobbler. In the afternoon, we went on a short hike that was only a couple of miles long. We came back for more free time, and eventually ate a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. Next, we had more great cobbler. We had a great night around the campfire where we did all kinds of songs and skits, played multiple rounds of capture the flag, and turned in for the night.

On the final (partial) day, we got up and ate a breakfast of oatmeal and pop tarts, before having a flag lowering ceremony. Then, in conclusion to our camping trip, we packed up and drove back to the church, happy that we went. We all enjoyed Camp Stambaugh, and all of us that attended would do it again in an instant. Those joining in on the fun were Allen, Chris, Danny, David, Donald, Doug, Derek, Greg, Jacob, Jordan, Kevin, Kurtis, Matt B., Matt S., Michael, Peter G., Peter L., Steven, Mrs. Guilivo(1), Mr. Makowski, Mr. ML Mayher, Mr. MM Mayher and Mr. Rickert.
