Mohican Wilderness
Scout Halloween Party

October 14-16, 2011
Glenmont, OH

The trip to Mohican Wilderness was a blast! Overall weekend weather was typical for fall minus the rain. The troop arrived and checked in on Friday night around 8pm. Everyone went to work setting up our dining fly and canopy, followed by troop gear and individual tents. Each patrol then sat down and had some delicious snacks. Soon after that we were ready for bed.

In the morning we woke up to cool temperatures, but not bad overall. The cooks went to work on breakfast while others assembled and put up a flag pole. Each of the patrols had Pancakes and Sausage for breakfast. After clean up we went for a pleasant 5 mile canoe trip. Some of the trees were starting to turn and it made for a nice trip down river. Once the canoes were landed and pulled on shore we headed back to camp for lunch. One patrol went with cold cut sandwhiches with soup, while the other had grilled ham and cheese with soup. Needless to say after canoeing we were quite hungry and lunch hit the spot. Clean up went a little slow so we skipped Mini-Golf and chose to stay in the campsite. Some worked on advancement while others tried fishing, cards, or just relaxed. At one point the winds really picked up and found anything that wasn't tied down. Later in the afternoon we went on a 30 minute Hay Ride that toured another section of camp. Then it was time to work on our Archery skills. Some members of the troop decided to have a little fun at the playground.

Dinner was served at the main pavilion by staff from Mohican Wilderness. We had chili, cookies, chips, and apple cider. There was a short break after dinner and then we took a torch lit hike up to the cemetary for ghost stories around a campfire. Then it was time for the Halloween Party complete with costumes, hot dogs and soda pop. Stewart received a prize for the Funniest Costume as a Homeless Bed Bug winning the troop either a week of summer camp or a canoeing weekend at Mohican Wilderness. Great job, Stewart! It was a very busy and fun filled trip. Those getting spooked were Adam, Alex, Evan, Jack, James, Kevin (sat evening), Michael A., Michael L., Mitchell (sat evening), Nick, Peter, Richard, Stephen, Stewart, Mr. Deran, Mrs. Golem, Mrs. Grasso, and Mr. Makowski.
