Mohican Wilderness
Scout Halloween Party

October 16-18, 2010
Glenmont, OH

Our weekend at Mohican Wilderness was a lot of fun. We arrived Friday night and setup camp fairly quickly. There was time to talk and have a snack before heading off to bed. The temperature dropped during the evening and in the morning we awoke to frost on the tents and picnic tables. The river looked like it was steaming with the low morning temperatures. We had a tasty breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and hot chocolate. Once the sun came out things began to warm up nicely. Our canoe trip on the Mohican left at 9am from the paddle house. It was a wonderful trip down the river with calm waters and trees in their fall colors. Everyone enjoyed themselves and returned back to the campsite around 12:00pm for lunch. After a filling lunch we made our way to play some mini-golf, went for a hay ride, and played around at the recreation barn. With a great weather forecast for the evening and the next day we decided to take down and store the canopy while it was still dry. We then made our way up to the central part of camp and spent some time at the playground before a Chili dinner.

When dinner was over we walked by torch light up near an old cemetary. There was a nice size campfire where the whole camp gathered and several people told ghost stories. Most where suspenseful, although there was one funny one that everyone got a laugh at. At the end of the campfire we made our way back to where we had dinner for a costume party and weiner roast. Each troop went through with their costumes and the judges made their decisions. The variety of costumes was pretty cool to watch. At the end they announce all the winners for each of the prize categories. It was then time to make our way back to the campsite. We had a small campfire where we talked and joked around. Before long people wandered off to bed for a well deserved rest. In the morning we broke camp very efficiently and were on our way home in no time at all. Those who survived the Scout Halloween weekend were Alex S., Danny S., Douglas, Ian, Jack, James, Kevin, Michael A., Michael L., Peter, Stephen K, Steven Z., Mr. Aube, Mr. Finn (Sat.evening), Mr. Makowski, and Mrs. Soroczak.
