Hinckley Trail Trek

May 4, 2002

Cleveland MetroParks Hinckley Reservation

It turned out to be a beautiful day for a hike through the woods around Hinckley lake. The trail was in very good condition. During the trip we saw a great deal of wildlife and had fun learning map and compass skills. We even ran into "Big Chuck" walking his dog. At each of the 14 control points the scouts were presented with a problem to solve using their outdoor essentials. Two control points were hidden to give them some practical Orienteering experience. Hike participants included Eric, Joey, Tyler, Mr. Fink, and Mr. Makowski.

The crew just starting out on their 5 mile hike.

At control 2 learning some hiking safety before proceeding on the road.

This shot of the Lake and Spring in full bloom was too good to pass up.

Lunch time at the Dam. Father Abraham anyone?

Eric puts the hurt to Mr. Fink. At this point we were able to shed our jackets and enjoy the weather.

An opportunity to estimate the distance across the river and throw Eric and Joey in. Just kidding!

Traversing a path through Whipp's Ledges. The men in the foreground were practicing rock climbing. There was another group rapelling.

Out of breath and near the end of our Trek at the top of the Ledges. Joey and Eric wait for Mr. Makowski and Tyler to reach the top.
