Ski Trip Mayville and
Findlay Lake, NY |
We
had an excellent weekend out at Camp Merz and Peek'n Peak
Ski Resort. The trip out passed quickly and before we
knew it we were settling in at Dawson Lodge in Camp Merz.
These are pretty deluxe accomodations for a scout camp.
The facility had gas heat, two dorm rooms, a large common
area, full kitchen and men's and women's restrooms. This
gave us plenty of room to have fun. Once everyone stowed
their gear we had a snack and played card and board
games. Then it was time for a good night's rest before
our big day tomorrow. In the morning we prepared a breakfast with sausage, eggs, hash browns, milk, coffee, and orange juice. Everything turned out great. However, things don't always go as planned. Just when we were about to leave for skiing the women's dorm room became locked. That made it impossible for some of our group to get ready. It took a little extra time, but we were able to get the keys from the ranger's wife. Shortly after that we were on our way to the slopes. Part of the group decided to go skiing or snowboarding and the rest of the group when tubing. The weather was a little warm, but it didn't interrupt the activities. For lunch we met at an agreed upon time to eat together in the lodge. Then it was time for more skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. At around 4:30pm a freak rain storm hit the area. Most people were done by this time of the day, but a few were caught in the rain. After that we turned in our equipment and headed back to Camp Merz. On the way back we picked up some pizza for a well deserved evening meal. After supper we had a few rematches of the card and board games including a very spirited game of hearts. On Sunday morning we awoke to about a foot of new snow on the ground. There was a quick breakfast followed by packing and cleaning up the lodge. Once that was done we began our long trip home. The road crews were not able to keep up as the snow continued to fall. This made for some slow travel, but by taking it easy everyone made it back safe and sound. Those joining in on the ski trip were: Donald, Kevin, Kurtis, Matthew O., Alison, Kristin, Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Krymowski, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Owen, Mr. Rickert, and Mr. Sewell. |
