Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation

April 16-18, 2004

Coshocton, OH

A small group of us took to the woods for a gorgeous spring weekend at Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation. We arrived with just enough light to set up our tents. After a snack of trail mix and juice we hit the hay. In the morning members of the Predators patrol fixed up a hearty breakfast while the Screaming Eagles worked on their lashing and camp gadget requirements. We held a flag ceremony after the flagpole was assembled and then sat down for breakfast.

Our plan included a 5 mile hike on the Perimeter trail. After breakfast we familiarized ourself with the area using map and compass. It was then time to hit the trail. We covered a beautiful part of camp with varied terrain. Each scout took turns orienting the topographic map and estimating our position using the features of the area. We ate lunch after our return back to camp. Free time in the afternoon was spent on fishing and advancement requirements. The new scouts took the opportunity to do the first phase of their physical fitness test. Barbeque chicken was the main course at supper. Afterwards we played some games and enjoyed an evening campfire. The next day we had a quick breakfast and packed up all our gear for the trip home. The outdoor adventurers on this outing included Alex, DJ, Eric, Nate, Ryan, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Schaffeld, and Mr. Svihlik.
