Father/Son Canoe Outing

October 3-5, 2003

Glenmont, OH

It was raining and chilly when we left for our canoeing adventure on Friday night. After a long drive down we picked out a campsite and went to work. The members of the troop set up camp in the dark with rain bearing down. However, everyone was in good spirits after the dining fly went up and camp was looking pretty good when it was time to turn in for the evening. Most of us questioned if we would wake up dry or the weather would clear. When morning came the rain had stopped and the group sat down to a delicious breakfast of pancakes and sausage. With breakfast done we checked into our canoeing departure time then had some team competition.

The team competition pretty much ended up in a draw. Each team won a segment of the activities then satisfied themselves with Lunch before heading to the river. Canoeing was both challenging and fun. Rain from the previous day made the river run swiftly and there were no obstacles to slow our progress. Once back at camp a few of us had enough time to take a warm shower before supper. During the day everyone built up a strong appetite and supper was probably some of the best Chilli Dogs ever tasted by this crew. Our evening ended with an old fashion campfire including songs and games. Members of the Happy Mohican River Canoers were Matt, Philip, Ryan, Mr. Klaasse, Mr. Makowski, Mr. Schaffeld, and Mr. Thomas.

A break in the action after breakfast.

Putting the finishing touches on breakfast clean up.

Before canoeing we had time for some competition around the campsite.

Fire and tripod building.

The sun may be out, but that water was really cold. The Thomas' get off to a wet start.

Rain from the previous day swelled the river making travel fairly easy.

Some bright sunshine with one of the many bridges up ahead.

Paddling down the last stretch of the journey back to our campsite.
