Cuyahoga Valley District Klondike Derby
January 15-17, 2010

Eight Scouts and Mr. Dzurnak, Mr. Svihlik and Mr. Drown left for Beaumont Scout Reservation on Friday, January 15, 2010. After a long trek to the cabin and then unpacking, we practiced for the events the next day. The weather on Saturday was in the 30’s and it wasn’t snowing or raining and was a good day to walk around, even though the ground was getting wet and slick in places. We went through our events, fire building, mystery, weights & measures, blind campsight, crossing the ravine with the sledge, getting something across a ravine with a rope, carrying our medicine (raw eggs) without breaking them. We make a fire and cooked lunch for the judging as well. The total of our points put us in 2nd place of 14 Patrols which was awesome. We bid on and won a cook stove with an oven. We also went to church in Rock Creek on Saturday. Our new Scouts learned a lot and we all had a great time and we came in 2nd!!!.

Cleanup, good job. Remember, for a pot over a fire, put dischwashing liquid on the outside of the pot before it goes in the fire, the blackness will come off easier!
