Frontier District Klondike Derby

February 2, 2002

A cool crisp February morning dominated the Klondike Derby, but still no snow. All patrols were ready to run with or without snow so the event moved on without a hitch. There were roughly 14 troops participating in the Derby. Throughout the day each patrol had to travel with their sledge to different stations. At each station they used their scouting skills and the contents of their sledge to complete a challenge. The Lumberjack Patrol did an outstanding job during the competition and took 2nd Place overall. Well Done! In attendance were Jared, Kyle, Pat, Rahul, Rob, and Tyler. Fairbanks, the Orienteering station, was run by Mr. Makowski, Mr. See, and Mr. Svihlik.

Rahul and Tyler oversee sled preparation at the Old Church before getting underway.

A quick shot of sledge and supplies while the patrol eats a hearty lunch of hot dogs, beans, chips and hot chocolate.

Here they are, the Lumberjack patrol.

A close up of our patrol flag. "Chop Wood, but Preserve the Forest!"

Around now I'm thinking the photographer had something to do with making the Lumberjack flag.

According to my map it should be right here. Does anyone know where station 6 is located?

This station had us building a temporary shelter.

Inside the temporary shelter. Home Sweet Home!
