| Although there was no snow on the ground the weather for our annual Polar Bear campout had some chilly moments. Upon arrival we found the ground at the campsite frozen with tracks from previous campers. Setup went quickly and we soon had a campfire going. Everyone turned in early to keep warm in their sleeping bags. In the morning, the shelter provided a great place to cook a hearty breakfast and clean-up. After breakfast we used plan "B" to hike the Blue Trail around the lake. It was a great day to be outside with mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Upon return to the campsite we cooked and served up a well deserved lunch. In the afternoon the troop performed a service project in our campsite. There was trash to pick-up, all the fire pits needed emptying of ashes, and the latrine needed a good cleaning. Once completed the campsite was in much better shape than when we found it. For supper we cooked a delicious meal of chicken over the open fire, maccaroni and cheese, green beans, and salad. Everyone was hungry from the days activities and there was not a person among us that will forget the cold winds while we ate our fill. In the evening we had a short campfire and then headed off for a good night's sleep. The morning came quick and we took down camp in short order with time to spare. Earning their Polar Bear award this trip were Alex, David H., Justin(1), Joey J., Joey P.(1), Kevin, Matt K.(1), Nate, Mr. Dzurnak, and Mr. Makowski. Mr. Svihlik stopped by for a visit on Saturday afternoon. | |
